ASPEED Supports Intel’s World First Server-Class Processor for Microsevers

Hsinchu, Taiwan, Jan 3rd, 2013 ASPEED Technology Inc., a fabless semiconductor company that specializes in Remote Server Management SoC (system on chip) is ready to support Intel® newly announced Atom™ processor S1200 product family.  The AST2300 is ASPEED’s 4th generation of Advanced PCIe Graphics & Remote Management Processor.  It provides customer with Advanced BMC features, DDR3 and 2D VGA support to meet the increasing performance requirements.

As public cloud computing continues to grow, the demand for data centers has becoming heavily weighted. ASPEED’s research and development of remote server management ICs enables a richer server system feature set, including the addition of an IPMI-complaint baseboard management controller (BMC) and iKVM functions.   According to Gartner, the market for cloud computing will expand rapidly in the coming years, with cloud-computing server shipments forecast to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 29.4% from 2011 to 2014.

In August, 2011, Aspeed received investment led by Intel Capital, Intel's global investment and M&A organization. The fund is being used to expand ASPEED’s research and development team and extend the company’s marketing program for cloud computing solutions.

“We are very pleased to support Intel’s new-generation processor for Microsevers which enables systems to be as energy efficient as possible.  Not only we’re are ready to support the Intel® Atom processor S1200 product family, but we will also support Intel’s next-generation Atom processor codenamed “Avoton” which will be available in 2013,” said Chris Lin, president of ASPEED Technology.

“ASPEED Technology is well-positioned to grow in cloud computing and low-power computing applications,” said Steve Thorne, Regional Marketing Director, APAC Advanced Technical Sales, Intel. “Intel is very pleased that ASPEED is actively supporting the new Intel® Atom processor S1200 product family, along with the future processor codenamed Avoton.”
